Know Your Risk. Change Your Future.
Why should you care about your cardiovascular health?
Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States and worldwide. In the United States alone, cardiovascular disease is responsible for approximately one in every three deaths. The encouraging news is that research shows up to 80% of cardiovascular disease is preventable or can be delayed when risk factors are identified and addressed early.
One of the greatest challenges is that cardiovascular disease is often silent for decades. In fact, for many individuals, the first symptom of heart disease is a heart attack. By the time symptoms appear, the disease process has often been developing for many years.
Cardiovascular disease is not simply a cholesterol problem, and it is not a sudden event. It is a long-term process that develops slowly over time and is influenced by many factors, including inflammation, metabolic health, blood sugar, blood pressure, hormones, environmental exposures, lifestyle, and genetics.
Today, we have more advanced tools available to better understand cardiovascular risk. In addition to standard cholesterol testing, we can measure markers such as ApoB, Lp(a), inflammatory markers, insulin and metabolic markers, endothelial health and much more. We can even use advanced imaging to directly visualize plaque in the arteries and determine whether it is stable or unstable (more likely cause a heart attack).
Our goal is to help you understand how cardiovascular disease develops, to evaluate your personal risk, and take action to slow down or even reverse the process with a combination of lifestyle, medications, and supplements, as appropriate and aligned with your philosophy and goals.
Looking Beyond Traditional Risk Factors
Routine medical care often focuses on a limited number of measurements such as cholesterol levels and blood pressure. While these remain important, they represent only part of the cardiovascular picture.
At Colorado Precision Medicine, we recognize that cardiovascular disease develops through a complex interaction of genetics, environment, and lifestyle, all affecting the body’s underlying biology. A comprehensive evaluation looks beyond traditional risk factors to identify the processes that may be driving disease long before symptoms appear.
Beyond the traditional risk factors like family history, smoking, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, and cholesterol, our evaluation may also include:
- Advanced lipid testing including Lp(a)
- Metabolic health (insulin resistance, prediabetes) and body composition
- Chronic inflammation
- Oxidative stress
- Markers of Endothelial dysfunction (early impairment of blood vessel health
- Markers of blood viscosity and blood clotting
- Hormonal influences
- Kidney function
- Nutrition and physical activity
- Sleep quality and quantity
- Stress and emotional well-being
- Environmental exposures and toxic burden when appropriate
- Intestinal dysbiosis and increased intestinal permeability (“leaky gut”), which may contribute to chronic inflammation
- Chronic infections that may promote inflammation, including periodontal (gum) disease
- Nutritional deficiencies and mitochondrial health
By evaluating these factors together, we develop a more complete understanding of your cardiovascular health and identify personalized opportunities to reduce risk, slow disease progression, and optimize long-term heart and vascular health.
Personalized Risk Assessment
No two patients share the same cardiovascular risk profile.
Depending on your medical history, age, symptoms, and personal goals, your evaluation may include advanced laboratory testing and other evidence-based diagnostic assessments designed to provide additional insight into cardiovascular health.
Areas that may be evaluated include:
- Lipoprotein analysis
- Inflammatory markers
- Metabolic health
- Blood sugar regulation
- Kidney function
- Nutritional status
- Hormonal influences
- Family history and inherited risk factors
- Lifestyle-related contributors
Every recommendation is individualized. Testing is selected thoughtfully based on its ability to provide clinically meaningful information rather than following standardized testing panels.
Prevention Through Precision Medicine
Our precision cardiovascular panel includes tests such as advanced lipid panel with apo B, lipoprotein Lp(a), oxidized LDL, Lp(PLA2), homocysteine, hs-CRP, insulin, glucose and hemoglobin A1c, omega 3 level, TMAO, ADMA, fibrinogen, and vitamin D level.
Further testing may include evaluation of intestinal permeability, heavy metals, hormone levels, sleep study, blood coagulation, etc.
We also use imaging techniques such as coronary calcium score, carotid ultrasound with carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT), coronary angiogram with both human as well as AI interpretation (CLEERLY and/ or Heart FLOW) and cooperate with cardiologists in the area as well as Denver when needed to achieve the best results for you.
Who May Benefit
Cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of death. The average age of a heart attack is 50, and before symptoms developed, the disease was silently affecting your arteries for years or decades. We believe that everybody (both man and women) should take advantage of precision evaluation and early intervention. With early intervention, up to 80% of heart attacks could be prevented, or at least significantly delayed. So, why wait?
